On Wednesday 16th May, Lancashire’s Michelin-starred Moor Hall restaurant hosted a CHR-sponsored masterclass. This class was delivered by the restaurant’s talented and experienced chef patron, Mark Birchall.
The participants – all finalists of the 2018 North West Young Chef of the Year competition – had the fantastic opportunity to learn sophisticated culinary techniques from top chefs using the finest local ingredients. The results looked truly delicious!

Three outright winners and three top scoring place ‘wildcards’ – entrants deemed by judges as too talented to not be in the running – make up the final six chefs for the North West Young Chef final. The final is set to be held on the 23rd May.

Great to see Paul on the stage giving advice on energy and sustainability in the commercial kitchen. Also showcased Scott with the award winning Dawnay Arms hotel near York which has saved a ridiculous ammount of money in the last year on energy.

It is all change at the nine-bed Hundred House Hotel, one of Shrophire’s favourite wedding venues, and destination restaurant, as Preston-based CHR Foodservice Equipment steps in to refurbish the hotel’s kitchens to a tune of £250,000.
The hotel is owned and run by the Phillips family – Henry, Stuart, David and Stuart’s wife Jo in the village of Norton. According to chef Stuart, the main kitchen has reached the end of a long life. “We haven’t done any work on it since it was first installed 20 years ago so it is time for a complete makeover. We have been here for the past 30 years and this investment in the future will take us through another 30 years”.
“We hope this reassures our loyal customers that we are definitely here for the long-term,” he laughs. The two AA Rosette award-winning restaurant prepares and serves the best produce that Shropshire has to offer along with a choice of over 100 herbs from Henry’s garden, in a flavour-driven, award-winning menu.
