The College’s key stipulations for the project were value for money, energy efficiency and sustainability.

John Starmer, Estates Director explains: “It is important for any College development that right from the construction stage sustainability is built in. From my point of view, energy savings and conservation are absolutely critical. Right from the project concept we knew CHR’s design proposal made commercial sense.”.

 

Over and above the cooking suite, the college’s investment ensures that students have a world class dining facility.  That level continues into the new chefs training centre which is helping to deliver a wide range of hospitality courses for the college.

The sustainable design included a promise to build 80% of the project from within local UK manufacturing while demonstrating value for money.  New servery counters, bars, a coffee shop and the training kitchen made up the scope of works carried out.

This project was recognised in the CEDA Grand Prix awards for outstanding achievement.
